A ‘temporary’ capital is likely to come up between
Guntur and Vijayawada shortly and the infrastructure at Acharya
Nagarjuna University (ANU) and APSP Battalion at Mangalagiri could be
used to house the administrative machinery.
A senior official told The Hindu
on Monday that the region could be in the reckoning for a temporary
capital soon after the new Government is sworn in. The model, design and
various plans for building a new capital region would be worked out in
the coming months.
The expert committee constituted
by Government of India to explore various options had a micro assessment
of the region around the temple town of Mangalagiri, the rail and road
connectivity and made a survey of the availability of reserved forest
land with the help of Google maps.
Surrounded by
six-lane national highway on one side and Guntur-Vijayawada rail line on
the other side, the place was being actively considered as an ideal
choice.
